Our Story

Hi, I’m Kristie Lathrop, and this is the story behind Vintage Peddler.

Back in 2016, I began refinishing old furniture—pieces that most people would discard. I saw potential in items with good bones and character, and I loved breathing new life into them. What started as a personal hobby quickly grew; soon, my home was filled with refinished treasures. I began selling a few pieces, and to my surprise, it took off! For over a year, I stayed busy transforming furniture and enjoying every moment of it.

Eventually, I turned my attention to my own kitchen. Though it had beautiful cherry cabinets, I envisioned a lighter, off-white look. The project took over a month, and I remember thinking, “Never again!” But life had other plans.

A year later, we moved to our dream home on a lake. The kitchen needed an update, and rather than investing in a full remodel, I decided to refinish the cabinets myself. With new countertops and a few other updates, the transformation was stunning—so, my never again turned into “here I go again."

Soon after, a friend asked if I’d ever considered starting a kitchen cabinet refinishing business. I hadn’t, but the idea sparked something. She asked me to refinish her kitchen, and the results were beautiful. From that moment on, word spread quickly.

Since then, I’ve refinished over 100 kitchens, and we’re now booked months in advance. To ensure top-quality results, I’ve completed professional training in Pittsburgh and Mankato, learning about the best products and equipment in the industry. Today, Vintage Peddler uses premium refinishing tools and materials to deliver long-lasting, beautiful kitchens.

One of the most exciting parts of this journey is having my youngest son join the team. Together, we’re building something special—helping clients bring their kitchen visions to life with care, craftsmanship, and creativity.

I feel truly blessed to do what I love and to make a lasting impact in so many homes.
